Expert groups

Our stakeholders are experts in different parts of the animal breeding and reproduction domain. Expert groups work on different species, technologies and themes related to animal breeding and reproduction. The expert groups exist out of specialists from industry and research.
There are 7 Species groups that deal with traits of relevance and species-specific challenges and opportunities (e.g. diseases, environmental impacts, production niche, etc.).
  • Cattle: beef, milk, leather, environmental goods.
  • Sheep/Goats: meat, milk, wool, fibre, environmental goods.
  • Pigs: meat, leather.
  • Poultry: eggs, meat, ducks, turkey, quail, etc.
  • Aquaculture: fish, shellfish.
  • Horses: meat, leisure, competition, environmental goods.
  • Other farm and companion animals: dogs, fur species, bees, rabbits, etc.

There are 3 Technology groups:
  • Animal breeding and Quantitative genetics: Statistical methods, software modelling, breeding schemes, trait measurement, identification, GxE, population biology, epidemiology, operational genetics.
  • Genomics and bio-informatics:
Mapping, sequincing, annotation, gene identification, epigenetics, functional genomics, control of expression, genetic networks, systems biology.
  • Reproductive technologies:
    - AI, ET, freezing, sex determination, cloning, ES cells, transgenetics, KOs, chromosomal manipulation (ploidy).
    - Biotech products.

And 3 Thematical groups:
  • Food quality and safety
  • Welfare, health and performance
  • Diversity and distinctiveness.
